# About Horse Cremation Directory ## What is Horse Cremation Directory? Horse Cremation Directory is a free, independent directory of United States cremation providers that handle horses, other large animals, and livestock. It currently lists 50 providers, organized by state and by the three things owners actually need to filter on: which species a provider takes, whether the cremation is private (your animal alone, ashes returned) or communal, and whether the provider will come and collect the animal. It exists because those filters are the ones a general maps search cannot do. A horse can weigh 900 to 1,200 pounds and needs equipment most pet crematories do not have, but a search for "pet crematory near me" lists them all the same, so finding the few that can actually take a horse means phoning them one at a time, usually on the worst day of the year to be making phone calls. On Horse Cremation Directory, "verified" means the provider's own public page was actually opened and the details shown were confirmed against it, and it can never be bought. 49 of the 50 listed providers currently carry confirmed contact details on that basis. A phone number or address is never published unless it was confirmed against the provider's own public information. For some providers a listing has been found but contact details are not yet confirmed, and those listings say so plainly and point you to the provider's website instead. A provider is only described as handling full size horses if its own material says so.
