Horses and other large animals can't be handled by most pet crematories — the body size needs specialized equipment, so providers are fewer and often serve a multi-state region rather than one town.

The questions owners ask first are whether the cremation is private (your horse alone, ashes returned to you) or communal, and whether the provider will pick up and transport the body — moving a deceased horse is the practical problem most sites don't address.

Aquamation (alkaline hydrolysis / water cremation) is a flame-free alternative some university veterinary programs offer for large animals; it's worth asking about if it matters to you.
